FIFA sucks

Football (soccer for Americans) is world's most popular game, and World Cup is football's biggest tournament where nations of the world compete against each other for championship. Yet FIFA - organizers of this tournament - DO NOT employ technology to decide hard-for-on-field-referees-to-judge situations. I fail to understand this. Come on, this is 2010. Most, if not all, major sporting events of the world employ instant replay to decide on tricky situations which the field umpires, referees, or judges cannot determine for sure without the help of slow motion instant replays what acually happened. In the current World Cup matches being held in South Africa, so many bad decisions have already been made by match referees that could have changed the outcome of the games! Yet FIFA is still sticking to their policy of "No Instant Replays". I'll never understand this. When technology is available, why not use it?

My favorite sport is cricket. It has been several years that cricket, aside from the two field umpires, uses a third umpire who has access to Instant Slow Motion Replays. When in doubt, the field umpires seek the opinion of this Third Umpire, who after reviewing the instant replay of the situation, gives his verdict and that is the verdict that stands! That way everybody is happy, and this leaves no room for grievances by any party. Why can't FIFA adopt these modern things? The television viwers can see the slow motion instant replays but the official verdict is always what the referee has said! FIFA really sucks.
